Maybe this week?? Please!!

I had to do at least 1 belly shot! We went for the black on white background for full dramatic effect. We had our 40 week prenatal exam today and got to meet another one of the providers, Dr. Weiner-Smith. She was very nice and I think at this point we have met everyone in the group. Dr. Shanahan is on vacation this week, kind of sad about that, but we like them all and as one of the other Drs. put it, that when it comes right down to it, I won't care if the janitor delivers the baby. He's probably right : ) Everything looks great, my blood pressure was 126/68, I have not gained any weight this week and Alex's heart rate was 140 ish. I also had my cervix checked today, for the 1st time. I was surprised that this had not happened yet, all the books warned of it since month 8. But since I hadn't had any problems, there really wasn't any need for it. Dr. Shanahan told me she is a less is more kinda girl. I am really glad the Dr. did it though. I needed something, just a tiny indication that I was heading towards the end, that something was moving forward. I know that things can dilate, shorten, thin, unplug and can stay that way for weeks. Since I am at 40 weeks I figured it couldn't hurt to know, they won't let me stay pregnant for too much longer, right? So, I am happy to announce that my cervix is a whole 1cm dilated, 70 % effaced and she could feel Alex's head!! The fact that she could feel his head was the part that amazed me the most. I know that he isn't that far in there, but it feels like he is miles away and his journey has been very long. I can't wait to meet him!!!

Maternity Leave

Today I decided that it was time to start my maternity leave. Work was just waiting for me to make the call and since I am due the day after tomorrow, I felt it was close enough. No one can say that I wimped out or didn't try, I am almost 40 weeks pregnant after all. Plus the fact that I am only sleeping 45 min. to an hour at a time, am exhausted, my feet and ankles start to swell if I am on them for more than a couple of hours, really helped in my decision. I just hope that Alex won't decide to stay in the womb for another week or 2. He needs to come out! We do think that he has dropped some more. My belly looks lower and feels fuller at the bottom, so cross your fingers and maybe we will have some exciting news this week.
