Take Two

Yesterday we had our second prenatal appointment and we were hoping to find out the sex of the baby. We told several people we would be having another ultrasound, but we were wrong. We did ask the Dr. very nicely, no luck. She said she only did the 1st one to see if there was a possibility of twins, that I would have 1 more done around 18-20 weeks to be sure everything is growing correctly and that would be it. Luckily my 18-20 week mark is only 2 weeks away, we are scheduled for Dec. 15 and hopefully the baby will cooperate. Cross your fingers!

The Dr. went through all of the labs that I had done last time, everything looks great and within normal limits. I will have to have a shot of Rh immune globulin at 26 weeks because of the Rh factor. I have a negative blood type and may have to have another shot after giving birth if the baby has a positive blood type. I'll have to do this with every pregnancy to be sure my body doesn't generate antibodies that can harm the next baby.

The Dr. told me at the last appt. that she only wanted me to gain between 10 and 15 lbs. for the entire pregnancy so I have really been watching what I eat. My hard work has been paying off, I have lost 6 lbs. since last weigh in! She said this was fine for me because I am above average weight, I'm eating the right things and we are trying to keep my blood pressure down. At the end of the appt. she checked the heartbeat and had to chase the baby around. S/he wouldn't stay still and all we could hear was my heartbeat. She finally got it and Jason will post the audio later, a strong 150 bpm.

We have decided on names though. For a boy Alexander Gerard, a girl Mollie Beth. We were going to use grandparents names for middle names, but after much consideration and lots of squabbling, we decided to use our own middle names. So much easier!
